ASHOKA HOSTEL, Hong Kong

Rooms are small and basic, suitable mainly for sleeping. They include air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, an in-room safe, tea and coffee facilities, and a hair dryer. Some units come with a private bathroom; others may have shared facilities. Daily housekeeping is provided, and fresh towels and bedding are changed regularly. Cleanliness and condition vary significantly between rooms - some are reported as clean and well-maintained, while others may have stains, humidity, or pests. To increase your chances of a better stay, request a renovated or fresher room at check-in. Note that soundproofing is minimal, and noise from the corridor or neighbouring rooms can be an issue.

Ashoka Hostel does not operate its own restaurant or provide breakfast. However, the location inside Chungking Mansions and along Nathan Road means there is an extraordinary choice of eateries nearby. Within a 5-minute walk you will find Nanhai No. 1 (0.5 km), The Lobby at the Peninsula Hong Kong (0.5 km), Felix (0.5 km), and Delaney's Kowloon Irish Bar (0.5 km), among many others. For Chinese cuisine, Spring Deer and Din Tai Fung are each about 0.5 km away. The hostel provides tea and coffee facilities in each room, and drinking water is available daily.

The hostel provides free Wi-Fi throughout the property, a 24-hour front desk, and a tour desk to help with excursions. Luggage storage and lockers are offered at no extra cost, and currency exchange is available on site. Laundry and dry cleaning services are available for an additional charge. The building has a lift but it is often crowded and slow. Accessibility is limited - there is wheelchair access to the building, but the stairwells are narrow and poorly lit. A hire car service can be arranged. Note that the hostel cannot guarantee room security at all times, so using the provided lockers or keeping valuables with you is recommended.
