Casa Barcelo sits in the heart of Eixample, within easy walking distance of major landmarks such as Casa Batlló and La Pedrera. Diagonal metro station (line 3) is 500 metres away, providing direct two-stop connections to Plaça de Catalunya and the Gothic Quarter. A 24-hour supermarket is directly opposite, and dozens of bars, restaurants, and cafés are within a 5-minute walk. Bus stops at the front door offer alternative routes across the city. The hostel is reachable from the airport via metro (L3 to Diagonal, about 40 minutes); no shuttle service is available. For light sleepers, street-facing rooms and those immediately behind the reception desk can be noisy day and night due to the surrounding bars and late-night staff activity.

Rooms are compact, with space primarily for the beds themselves. Each bunk features a curtain for privacy, a reading light, a power socket, and a large under-bed drawer that can be secured with a padlock (provided with a deposit). All dormitories are mixed-gender; gender-specific rooms are not available. The rooms are air-conditioned and heated, but some have no external window and rely on artificial light. Noise is a recurring issue: rooms near reception or facing the street pick up loud conversations, bar noise until 1-3am, and bathroom sounds. The bunk beds are not sturdy; movement from one person shakes the entire frame. Mattresses vary in firmness, with some being worn and sagging. A few rooms have a balcony; availability should be confirmed at booking. The showers are small, with no shelf for toiletries, and shower doors in the female area do not close fully, limiting privacy.

Breakfast is included in the room price and runs from 07:00. The spread includes bread, butter, jam, cream cheese, croissants, cereal, fresh fruit, soya milk, fruit juice, and a choice of coffee, tea, and infusions. While sufficient for a light start, the selection is basic and does not include hot dishes. Gluten-free options are limited to one fruit item. The hostel has no restaurant or bar, but a vending machine offers drinks and snacks. Two well-equipped shared kitchens (microwave, fridge, toaster, oven, kettle, cookware) are available for guests who prefer to prepare their own meals. A 24-hour supermarket across the street makes grocery shopping very convenient. Dozens of restaurants and cafés of various cuisines are within a short walk.

There is no swimming pool, spa, or gym on site. Leisure options are limited to the hostel's own spaces: a small garden with seating, a sun terrace, and a cosy lounge with sofas and a TV. The terrace and garden are closed after 23:00. The shared lounge is a popular spot for meeting other travellers but also closes at 23:00, after which guests are expected to be in their rooms. A balcony is available in some rooms. The lack of a late-night common area means that anyone not ready to sleep after 23:00 must either be in their dorm or leave the building.

The hostel operates a 24-hour front desk where staff provide check-in assistance, tourist information, and concierge services. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building with reliable speed for streaming and working. Free luggage storage allows guests to leave bags before check-in and after checkout, making late flights or early arrivals easy. Lockers in the dormitories are large enough for all belongings; a padlock is provided with a €5 refundable deposit, or guests may use their own. Daily housekeeping is included, cleaning common areas and bathrooms several times a day. Laundry services are available at an additional charge.
