HOSTAL ESPARTEROS, Madrid

Hostal Esparteros sits at the very core of Madrid's tourist and cultural area. Sol metro station is a couple of minutes away, providing direct rail connections to Atocha station for high-speed trains and to the airport via line 8. The Prado Museum and Reina Sofía Museum are roughly a 15-minute walk, while Gran Via is less than 1 km away. Seven restaurants and tapas bars - including Museo del Jamon and Casa Labra - are within a 5-minute walk. The location offers near-total walkability for all central attractions, and the building entrance is street-level but unmarked, so use the address and ring the bell for the second-floor reception.

Rooms are compact - single rooms measure approximately 6 m2 total, with limited floor space around the bed. Many rooms face an interior lightwell or courtyard, which can feel stuffy and dark; street-facing rooms with a balcony are noticeably better for light and ventilation. All rooms feature air conditioning (shared compressor system that may cycle off during peak use), a private bathroom with shower (very small in most singles), a hairdryer, free toiletries, parquet floors, electric kettle, and a refrigerator. Some rooms include a kitchenette or a work desk. Soundproofing is minimal - conversations, TV, and plumbing from neighbouring rooms are audible, making earplugs a useful item. The triple and twin rooms are slightly more spacious, but still tight for three adults. The single room is best suited for one person needing only a central base for sleeping.

Hostal Esparteros does not have a restaurant or serve breakfast, so all meals must be sourced outside. The room provides a refrigerator and an electric kettle; some rooms also have a microwave and kitchenware, allowing limited self-catering. The surrounding area offers numerous dining options within a 3-minute walk, including Museo del Jamon, Rosi La Loca Taberna, and La Mallorquina for pastries. Coffee and tea sachets are complimentary in the room, but no drinking water is provided.
