The hotel sits on Mariahilfer Gürtel, a busy boulevard, with a tram stop directly across the street. Westbahnhof station is a 5-minute walk, connecting to the U3 metro line and direct trains to the airport. The Hop-On Hop-Off bus (blue line) stops right outside, and the U6 metro station at Gumpendorfer Straße is about 7 minutes on foot. Mariahilfer Straße, the main shopping promenade, is 500 metres away. St. Stephen's Cathedral is 5 metro stops, Schönbrunn Palace about 7 minutes by U6. The area has many restaurants, cafés and a supermarket within a short walk. Rooms on the boulevard side can be noisy due to traffic and trams; guests sensitive to noise should request a quieter room facing the courtyard or on higher floors. The location works well for both car-free city exploration and as a transit hub for day trips.

Rooms are clean and functional, with a choice of twin, double, triple, and family configurations (a baby cot can be added to double rooms, no extra beds). Some rooms have parquet floors, others are carpeted. Air conditioning is present but has been reported to be ineffective during warmer weather, especially on lower floors. High-floor rooms offer better AC performance and quieter conditions. Road-facing rooms can be very noisy due to trams and traffic; the hotel's double-glazed windows help but do not eliminate it. Triple rooms have three separate beds, making them suitable for friends or families. Bathrooms are compact with a shower; some have worn fittings. Bedding includes a thin mattress topper on a base; pillows can be too soft - extra pillows are available at reception. The hotel has interconnecting rooms available upon request and wheelchair-accessible rooms. No kettles, fridges, or irons in rooms (irons available at front desk; hot water from the bar).

Breakfast is a substantial buffet with bread, pastries, cold cuts, cheese, eggs, sausages, fruit, cereals, and hot drinks. It is served in the main breakfast room or sometimes in a secondary area if the main space is crowded. A la carte dinner is available at the Günter restaurant, which also serves as the bar and lounge area, with a menu of international dishes and a cocktail list. The bar stays open until late, useful for a nightcap. A vending machine for drinks is located on the ground floor. During periods of renovation or high occupancy, breakfast can become busy, with queues for seating; the hotel may issue timed tickets. For guests who prefer to eat out, the surrounding area offers numerous restaurants and cafés, particularly along Mariahilfer Straße and the streets around the theatre.

Ibis Wien Mariahilf does not have a swimming pool, spa, or fitness centre. For relaxation, the ground-floor bar provides a social space with a modern atmosphere and good music.
