UNION HOTEL, San Francisco

The hotel is less than 1 km from Dolores Park and 2 km from San Francisco City Hall. The 16th St Mission BART station is a 1-minute walk, providing direct connections to the airport, downtown, and Oracle Park via BART and bus lines. Moscone Center and Union Square are each about 3 km away, and AT&T Park is 4 km. The surrounding streets have a high density of homeless individuals and some drug activity, particularly at night, so staying aware and not lingering outside after dark is prudent. Despite the immediate area, the hotel's secure front door and 24-hour front desk create a safe interior space. Many restaurants and taquerias are within a 5-minute walk, including Pancho Villa Taqueria, Limon, and Castillito Yucateco.

Each room includes a flat-screen satellite TV, towels and linen, heating, and a small sink (ideal for personal washing). Rooms have windows. There is no desk, minibar, or dedicated storage for clothes - only a dresser and tray table. Bed sizes are generally twin or queen and the mattresses are often described as worn or thin. Bedding and room atmosphere can feel dated. Thin walls and windows that may not close securely mean noise from neighbors and the street is common. No air conditioning is available; cooling relies on opening the window (which may not have a screen, so safety for small children is a concern). Rooms are on upper floors - no elevator, so be prepared to carry luggage up stairs. A shared toilet and shower are located on each floor (approximately 2 bathrooms and 1 shower per floor, serving 8-10 rooms). The shared showers are small, with limited hooks for clothing, and tiles can be worn. Heating is available.

No on-site restaurant or breakfast service is available. The property offers free coffee in the morning and a communal microwave. For meals, the Mission District is well known for its diverse food scene: Pancho Villa Taqueria (0.5 km), Castillito Yucateco (0.5 km), Taqueria Los Coyotes (0.5 km), and Limon (0.5 km) offer authentic Mexican and Peruvian options. Mission Hunan Restaurant (0.5 km) and Alhamra (0.5 km) provide Asian and Middle Eastern choices. The Indian restaurant Pakwan is also recommended by the staff. These are all within a short walk, making eating out convenient.

There is no swimming pool, spa, gym, or sauna at Union Hotel. No dedicated leisure facilities are present on site. Guests seeking wellness or exercise should plan to use nearby parks (Dolores Park is less than 1 km away) or local fitness centers. The hotel's focus is on providing a low-cost base for city exploration rather than on-site recreational amenities.
