ZEDWELL UNDERGROUND HOTEL TOTTENHAM COURT RD, London

The hotel is situated on Great Russell Street, directly above the Tottenham Court Road underground station, giving you immediate access to the Central, Northern and Elizabeth lines. This makes reaching Oxford Street, Covent Garden, Soho and the West End theatres within a 10-minute walk. The area is densely packed with restaurants, shops and cultural spots, including the Dominion Theatre (90 metres) and Leicester Square (800 metres). For airport transfers, Heathrow is 33 minutes via the Elizabeth line, while Gatwick takes about 45 minutes via Victoria. Busy streets at ground level mean parking is impossible nearby; the closest car park is NCP London Bloomsbury Square, a short walk away. Many find the location ideal for short visits focused on central London attractions, though the building entrance is on a side street.

Rooms are designed as compact sleeping cocoons on basement levels -4 and -5, with no natural light and a circadian rhythm lighting mirror. Each room has a private walk-in shower, free toiletries, air conditioning, soundproofed walls and heating. Electrical outlets are positioned conveniently near the beds. The hotel uses a filtered air circulation system to maintain air quality. However, room sizes vary significantly: single and double 'cocoons' are very small, with room for luggage only on the bed or floor. There are no surfaces like a desk or side table, and only a few hooks for hanging clothes. Some rooms include a larger bed layout (Cocoon 4), but none provide a wardrobe, hangers, kettle or mini-fridge. Noise levels differ by room location; those near the tube lines or a gym above can hear train rumble and thudding, while others report a quiet sleep. The bed is often described as comfortable with good-quality pillows, but some have found the mattress too soft or stained. Light sleepers should use the earplugs provided.

The hotel does not operate its own restaurant or bar, so all meals beyond breakfast must be found outside. Breakfast is paid separately at £18 and offers Full English/Irish or vegetarian choices. The reception lounge provides complimentary tea, coffee and water at all times, which is a useful amenity. The surrounding streets have dozens of eateries within a few minutes' walk, from casual noodle bars and bakeries to sit-down restaurants, making it easy to eat out. Given the lack of an on-site kitchen, the hotel suits visitors who plan to explore central London and eat in the area rather than rely on room service.
