GATEWAY HOTEL SANTA MONICA, Santa Monica

The Gateway Hotel Santa Monica offers a practical base for exploring the area by car or public transport. The 17th Street/Santa Monica College Metro Expo Line station is a 5-minute walk away, providing direct service to Downtown Santa Monica, the beach, and the Santa Monica Pier. Los Angeles International Airport is a 20-minute drive, though there is no airport shuttle. The hotel sits next to Providence Saint John's Health Center, making it a convenient choice for hospital visits. The surrounding area is popular for swimming, dining, and shopping, with numerous restaurants within a 0.5 km radius-including Socalo on the premises. A bus stop is located directly across the street for easy city connections. Note that while the beach is 3 km away, it is a manageable walk (about 30-35 minutes) or a quick bus/Uber ride.

Guest rooms at the Gateway Hotel Santa Monica include a range of practical amenities: a mini refrigerator, tea and coffee maker, air conditioning, ironing facilities, hairdryer, and a safety deposit box. All rooms feature private bathrooms with either a bath or shower. The room size is generally decent, though some double rooms are described as spacious while others feel compact. The sink is located inside the room rather than in the bathroom in some configurations, which may reduce privacy for those getting ready. The beds are consistently praised for comfort, with pillow-top mattresses. Rooms facing the street (front side) can be noisy due to traffic and nearby ambulance sirens; light sleepers should request a room in the back (x01, x02 stack) for a quieter stay. The entire hotel is non-smoking. No rooms have balconies. There are no microwaves available, but a coffee maker is provided.

Breakfast at Gateway Hotel is included in the room rate and consists of a grab-and-go style spread: pre-packaged cereal bars, small pancakes, yogurt, fruit (bananas, oranges), and beverages (coffee, tea, juice). Seating in the lobby is very limited, so many take breakfast back to their room. The breakfast is basic and adequate for starting the day but does not include hot items beyond the pancake machine. For a fuller meal, the on-site restaurant Socalo serves American and Mexican cuisine for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday (12:00-20:00), and a coffee shop (10 Speed Coffee) is located directly across the street. Numerous other dining options are within a short walk, including Uppers Cafe & Bakeshop and several restaurants on Wilshire Boulevard.

Gateway Hotel Santa Monica offers a range of practical services: free high-speed Wi-Fi in all areas, a 24-hour front desk with express check-in/out, daily housekeeping (free), and a business centre with fax/photocopying (additional charge). Luggage storage is available at no charge for same-day use. The property also features a shared lounge/TV area, a vending machine for drinks and snacks, and a safety deposit box at reception. Dry cleaning is offered for an extra fee (pick-up by 08:00, return by 17:00). Parking is underground, secure, and costs $15-$23 per night (depending on rate) with unlimited in/out access; no reservation is needed, and accessible parking is limited. The hotel has two lifts, key card access for elevators (enhanced security), and is fully accessible for disabled guests. Cots (pak 'n plays) are available on request at no additional cost.
