The hostel sits on a pedestrian lane just off Rose Street, placing it within a 2-minute walk of the tram stop for direct airport service, 10 minutes from Waverley Railway Station, and 15 minutes on foot from Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. Princes Street with its shops and bus stops is one block away. The immediate area is filled with bars, restaurants, and a Sainsbury's supermarket 100 metres away. Despite the central position, the lane setting partially shelters the entrance from the busiest traffic, though rooms facing the street or the alley above bars can experience noise from deliveries, ventilation, and late-night crowds.

The standard pods are built into shared dormitories (female-only and mixed) with soundproofed walls, curtains for privacy, a foam mattress, personal lighting, a shelf, and USB charging ports. Bed linen is included; towels are available to rent for £2. The rooms are compact - a 4-person dorm is about 22 m2 - and can feel tight when multiple guests are in the room, especially for storing open luggage. The lockers are large enough to fit a standard suitcase and use a combination code (no padlock needed). The private penthouse apartment is a self-contained unit for two with a double bed, fully equipped kitchen, private bathroom, and balcony (smoking permitted on the balcony). The penthouse features floor-to-ceiling windows and city views but has no air conditioning and can become warm. Noise from a nearby pub's ventilation system has been noted in both dorms and the penthouse, creating a low-frequency hum and vibration. The building has no lift and stairs are the only access.

The shared kitchen on the ground floor is equipped with an oven, hob, toaster, microwave, kettle, cutlery, crockery, and utensils. Tea and coffee are provided free of charge. The space is compact and includes a shared lounge/TV area. For cooked breakfast, the sister hostel CoDE Court in the Old Town offers a breakfast service (purchase required). The immediate surroundings on Rose Street and Princes Street provide dozens of restaurants, pubs, and a Sainsbury's supermarket within a minute's walk, making self-catering or eating out equally convenient.

The primary leisure space is the ground-floor communal lounge with sofas and a TV area, which is used for relaxing, socialising, and dining. Organised daily local drink tastings are available at the sister property CoDE Court (free for guests). For those who prefer outdoor activity, Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, and Princes Street Gardens are all within a 15-minute walk.

High-speed Wi-Fi is free throughout the building. Luggage storage is free before check-in and after check-out until 10pm on the departure day; longer storage (e.g., multiple days) costs £5 per bag per day. A locker room with code-operated lockers (no padlock needed) is available in the dorm rooms and a separate luggage room. The building has no lift - all rooms are accessed by stairs. Laundry facilities are not available at The Loft, but a washer and dryer are accessible at the sister hostel a 15-minute walk away (the dryer has been known to be out of service). Bicycle storage is not provided; bikes can be chained to an outside fence at the owner's risk. Hairdryers are available in the rooms. Security features include CCTV in common areas, CCTV outside, and fire extinguishers. The hostel uses a self-check-in system with door codes provided via email; staff are not always on site after a certain hour but can be contacted via WhatsApp. Express check-in/check-out is standard.
