The immediate environment can feel intimidating, particularly after dark, but the station itself is well-served by police presence. For car-free travellers, the location is ideal for using rail to reach all parts of the city and beyond.

Room types range from single and twin private rooms (with TV, safe, desk and chair) to 6- and 8-bed dormitories. Dorm beds are bunk-bed style with a light feature, shelf, charging station, and an under-bed locker (bring your own padlock or buy one at reception). Female-only dorms are available. Private bathrooms are compact - the shower and toilet are in a single, very small wet room that can feel cramped, especially for taller or larger individuals. The rooms are not spacious; a twin or double private room is best suited for sleeping and storing luggage on the floor, without much living space. Soundproofing between rooms and from the corridor is limited, so noise from other occupants can be heard. Windows in some units do not close tightly, allowing street noise in. No rooms have a balcony. Rooms are reached by elevator, though the lift can be slow or occasionally out of service. Daily housekeeping is included, though extra towel changes may require a request or fee.

The breakfast buffet includes bread, pastries, hot drinks, and continental items. While basic in variety, it provides a convenient and filling start to the day without leaving the building. The Helter Skelter bar operates as a café, bar, and live music venue, offering an art gallery, local beers, and snacks. It hosts regular events, particularly on weekends.
