HOTEL VONDEL GARDEN, Amsterdam

The hotel sits in a quiet neighbourhood right on the edge of Vondelpark, a short walk from Leidseplein, the Rijksmuseum (10 minutes on foot) and the Concertgebouw. Several trams are nearby, providing direct connections to Amsterdam Central Station. The area is also served by the Airport Express bus, making Schiphol access straightforward without a car. The immediate streets are lined with restaurants and cafes, and the park offers a green setting for walks or cycling. For car-free travellers the location is excellent, but the lack of on-site parking means driving is not practical.

The hotel offers double and family rooms, with configurations including double beds or two single beds pushed together. Rooms are typically very small, with limited floor space for luggage; larger rooms for four people are more spacious. All rooms include a private bathroom with a shower, hairdryer and free toiletries, but bathrooms are often described as cramped and may have low water pressure, especially on upper floors. Windows in some rooms face a wall or the park, and are reported to be draughty. There is no air conditioning - only small fans are provided. Noise from other guests in the corridors and from the street can be an issue, and rooms near the reception or ground floor may hear lobby activity. Mattress quality varies: some are comfortable, others described as soft or with separate beds that separate during the night. Daily housekeeping is available for an additional charge; some rooms are cleaned regularly. The steep stairs and lack of an elevator mean rooms on upper floors are not ideal for those with mobility concerns or heavy luggage.

Breakfast is not a hot buffet but a pre-packed paper bag containing items such as a sandwich, muffin, yoghurt, juice and a piece of fruit. There are only a few chairs in the breakfast area, so most meals are taken in the room or on the go. The hotel does not operate a restaurant or bar, but there is a vending machine for drinks and snacks. Leidseplein and the surrounding streets offer many dining options within a few minutes' walk, from casual cafes to Indian, Thai and other cuisines. Free tea and coffee are available in the lobby.

Wellness facilities are not available - there is no spa, swimming pool or fitness centre. The main leisure opportunity is the hotel's bicycle rental service (additional charge), which provides a practical way to explore the city and the adjacent Vondelpark. The park itself is ideal for walking, jogging or cycling, and the surrounding area is popular for strolling to museums and canals.

Wi-Fi is free in all areas. The 24-hour reception provides an invoice and can assist with luggage storage (before check-in and after check-out until 17:00). Luggage is stored in an open area, not a secured room - the hotel accepts no responsibility for lost or damaged items. Bicycle rental is available for a fee. A vending machine sells drinks and snacks. There is no on-site parking - the nearest public car park is a 3-minute walk. Pets are not permitted and smoking is prohibited throughout. The hotel uses a digital key system accessed via a mobile app; ensure you have a charged phone and mobile data on arrival. Late check-out can be requested for an additional charge (€10 per hour until 13:00). Accepted payment methods are Visa, Maestro and MasterCard.
