HOSTEL NEW YORK, Barcelona

The Gothic Quarter location places the hostel within easy walking distance of Barcelona's main attractions. Ciutadella Park is 10 minutes away on foot, and Barceloneta Beach is a 15-minute stroll. The ferry port bus is a 10-minute walk, and airport buses depart from Plaza Catalunya Square, a 20-minute walk. Numerous restaurants, bars and shops are directly outside. The area is lively day and night, which can mean street noise, but the central position makes it ideal for sightseeing without relying on transport.

Rooms range from dormitories (4-6 beds) to private options like the economy room (1 bunk bed) and family rooms (up to 6 beds). All rooms feature modest décor, bunk beds, individual lockers and free bed linen; towels are also included. Bathrooms are shared per floor - each floor has separate showers and toilets for women and men. There is no air conditioning; rooms are provided with electric fans. Some rooms have a balcony, though some balconies are shared with the adjacent room. Rooms facing the street can be noisy at night due to nearby bars, and rooms with windows onto internal shafts may have limited ventilation and light. Power sockets are limited - often only one per room - so extension cords are used. Beds can be squeaky and mattresses vary in comfort.

The hostel does not currently serve breakfast, though it may be offered between April and September. There is no restaurant. A shared kitchen is available, equipped with a stove, refrigerator, coffee maker and toaster, but cooking is only permitted between 18:00 and 22:00. During the day, the kitchen can be used to prepare simple meals like sandwiches or salads. The kitchen has limited utensils and cookware. For a wider choice, many restaurants and cafés are within a 1-5 minute walk, including Momo, Bodega Vasconia, Ramen Shop and Milk Bar & Bistro.

The hostel does not have a spa, pool or gym. Board games are available in the common area. The main leisure value comes from the central location: the Gothic Quarter itself offers countless streets to explore, Ciutadella Park is a 10-minute walk, and Barceloneta Beach is 15 minutes away. The area is full of restaurants, bars and cultural sites. There are no organised social events or activities on site.

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. The 24-hour front desk can assist with check-in at any hour, store luggage free of charge before check-in and after check-out, and provide tour information. Lockers are available in rooms (small, metal, can be noisy) and a separate secure luggage room is used for storage. A shared kitchen and common area are on the ground floor. The property has a lift, but it can be faulty. Facilities for disabled guests, family rooms, heating, cots, and board games are provided. Parking is not available. Pets are not allowed. A safety deposit box is offered at an additional charge. Bicycles can be stored. The hostel is non-smoking throughout with CCTV and fire safety measures.
