The Hat Madrid sits in the heart of the city, a short stroll from Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace. Puerta del Sol Metro station is within walking distance, providing direct links across Madrid and to Atocha train station. The lively La Latina district is under 10 minutes away, known for its medieval streets, tapas bars and nightlife. A supermarket is located opposite the hostel, and many restaurants, cafés and bars are within a 5-minute walk. Night-time street noise is a factor, especially on weekends; closing windows helps, but those seeking total quiet may prefer rooms away from the street.

The Hat Madrid provides a range of sleeping options: private rooms (with private bathroom) and dormitories from 4 to 10 beds, including female-only dorms. Beds are fitted with privacy curtains, a reading light, USB sockets, and a shelf for personal items. Each bed has a large locker (bring your own padlock). Rooms with a private bathroom include towels at no extra cost; otherwise towels can be rented for €2.50 per stay. Dormitories that share bathroom facilities use extra bathrooms located on the same floor. Bunk beds are sturdy but some may creak. Street-facing rooms can be noisy at night due to the central location; earplugs are advisable for light sleepers. Air conditioning and heating are available in all rooms.

Breakfast is a continental buffet with bread, cold cuts, cheese, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, juice and hot drinks, served on the rooftop terrace with skyline views. The rooftop bar operates a restaurant for dinner with a limited menu at moderate prices. A basement space ("The Cave") has a kitchenette with microwave, oven and fridge where guests can prepare simple meals. Nearby, a wide variety of restaurants, tapas bars and cafés are within a 5-minute walk, including Museo del Jamon, Restaurante Botin, and Rosi La Loca Taberna.

The hostel runs a free walking tour daily departing from the lobby at 10:55, lasting roughly 2 hours 15 minutes. A complimentary tapas night takes place every evening except Sunday at 21:30 in The Cave. A guided pub crawl starts at 22:30 nightly for €15. The rooftop terrace is a social hub with sofas and seating, ideal for relaxing with a drink or working remotely. The lobby and basement also offer lounge areas. Board games are available, and the property occasionally hosts evening events such as sangria workshops.
