CASTANEA OLD TOWN HOSTEL, Stockholm

The hostel occupies a historic building on a quiet alley just off the main tourist streets. Gamla Stan metro station is a 3-minute walk, providing direct connections to the rest of Stockholm. The Royal Palace is 200 metres away, and Stockholm Central Station is 2 km on foot. Over a dozen restaurants and cafés are within a 5-minute radius, from traditional Swedish cuisine to casual dining. The area is pedestrian-friendly and safe, ideal for exploring on foot. No parking is available, but public transport and walkability are excellent.

All rooms feature heating and wooden floors. The twin rooms have two 80 cm wide beds that can be pushed together upon request; they often have quiet street views. Dormitories come with bunk beds, lockers (bring a padlock or buy one), and personal reading lights and power sockets. Room sizes are compact, especially in dorms, and the building's age means floorboards may creak and walls are thin - noise from adjacent rooms or the kitchen can sometimes be heard. However, rooms are kept clean and bright. A lift serves the upper floor but some rooms require navigating a few steps, so wheelchair access is limited.

The hostel does not have a restaurant or bar, but a cafe directly attached to the building serves breakfast, coffee, and light meals for purchase. The shared kitchen is well-equipped with cookware, utensils, and a stove, allowing guests to prepare their own meals. For dining out, dozens of restaurants within a few minutes' walk offer Swedish, international, and casual options. Groceries and supermarkets are also nearby.

WiFi is free and available in all rooms. The shared kitchen includes full cooking equipment. Laundry service costs 150 SEK: drop off between 9-11am and collect dry items by end of day. Free luggage storage is available in a code-locked room, even after check-out. The lounge area has books, board games, and tourist information. A safety deposit box is free. The building has a lift, but some rooms have additional small stairs. No parking, no pets, and no smoking on site. Reception hours are 9-11am and 3-6pm; outside these hours, access is via a door code.
