MEININGER HOTEL AMSTERDAM AMSTEL, Amsterdam

The hotel sits at a major transport hub, with Amstel Station adjacent and a metro, tram, and bus stop right outside. Walking to the city centre along the Amstel River takes about 40 minutes, while the metro reaches Central Station in roughly 10 minutes and the Johan Cruyff Arena in 10-15 minutes. Schiphol Airport is 11 km away and accessible by direct train. A large Jumbo supermarket and McDonald's are across the street, and several restaurants including Julia's Amsterdam Amstel and Dauphine are within a 5-minute walk. The surrounding area is quieter than the centre, making it suitable for travellers seeking easy connectivity without the bustle. On-site parking is available at 30 EUR per night.

The hotel offers private rooms (single, twin, double, triple, quadruple, and family) as well as 4- and 6-bed dormitories (mixed or female-only). All rooms feature an en-suite private bathroom with a shower, free toiletries, and a hairdryer. Beds are locker-style storage for luggage, and storage space is limited-there are no closets or drawers for hanging clothes. Rooms are compact (e.g., a 6-bed family room is about 16 m²) and basic in furnishing, with a desk and flat-screen TV. The air conditioning is controllable, but windows cannot be opened for security reasons, so the ventilation system runs continuously. Soundproofing is decent, though noise can travel from hallways and the nearby station. Daily room cleaning and towel changes are upon request. Beds are narrow in some rooms, and mattresses may show wear. The property has no rooms with a balcony.

The breakfast buffet costs 12 EUR per person and includes bread, pastries, cold cuts, cheese, yogurt, fruit, and hot drinks. While the selection is standard and consistent, it can run out early if the hotel is full, and some items may not be replenished quickly. The on-site bar and snack bar serve drinks and light bites, and vending machines offer snacks and drinks 24/7. The fully equipped guest kitchen (open 6:00-22:00) is a major asset for families and budget travellers, with a stove, oven, microwave, utensils, and a shared fridge. A free water refill station is located near the kitchen. For those preferring to eat out, several fast-food options and restaurants are within a 5-minute walk, and the Jumbo supermarket across the street sells groceries.

The hotel does not have a spa, swimming pool, or gym. Leisure facilities are limited to a games room on the ground floor with billiard tables (additional charge of 2.50-3 EUR per game) and a small selection of board games. The lounge area in the lobby provides a social space with seating, a TV, and a bar. For more active recreation, the surrounding area offers walking and cycling paths along the Amstel River.
