SCHULZ HOTEL BERLIN WALL AT THE EAST SIDE GALLERY, Berlin

The hotel sits at the corner of the iconic East Side Gallery, the longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall, and faces Ostbahnhof station across the main road. The station provides direct S-Bahn and regional trains to Berlin Brandenburg Airport (about 25 minutes), Alexanderplatz, and central districts. The surrounding Friedrichshain neighbourhood offers a vibrant, youthful atmosphere with bars, cafés, and a riverside promenade ideal for walking or cycling. The Uber Arena is within a 15-minute walk. A 24-hour supermarket (REWE), McDonald's, and several casual eateries are inside or adjacent to the station. The area buzzes with activity, especially around the station and the East Side Gallery foot traffic.

Rooms are individually furnished and designed in a clean, modern style. Each room includes a private bathroom with shower and complimentary toiletries, free WiFi, a Smart TV with streaming services, and individually controlled air conditioning (fan coil units). Bed configurations vary: double rooms, twin/double rooms, and family rooms with up to four single beds or bunk beds. Soundproofing between rooms and from the street is generally effective, but some rooms near the elevator or facing the road may pick up hallway and street noise, particularly from emergency vehicles passing the station. Rooms are compact, especially for a family of four, with limited space for opening large suitcases. No in-room tea/coffee facilities, mini-fridge, or bottled water are provided. Some rooms have no views or windows that only tilt open. Courtyard-facing rooms are quieter. The overall feel is functional and modern, similar to a well-designed hostel, more suited to travellers who prioritize location and practicality over spaciousness or in-room amenities.

The hotel provides a guest kitchen for self-catering, a youth lounge with a football table, and a shared lounge/TV area. Outdoor spaces include a sun terrace, garden, and outdoor furniture, plus a beer garden adjacent to the property. For children, there are board games/puzzles, an indoor play area, kids' outdoor play equipment, stroller availability, and a kid-friendly buffet. The hotel can arrange cycling activities (off-site, free) and temporary art gallery access (off-site, free). There is no pool, spa, gym, or sauna on the property. The facilities are practical and family-oriented rather than luxury-oriented, and well-suited for travellers or groups who want communal and self-service options.

Free WiFi is available throughout the property. The 24-hour front desk provides express check-in/out and a safety deposit box for valuables (additional charge). A luggage storage room with lockers is available for a fee (€4 per item). The hotel has a lift and is equipped for disabled guests with wheelchair-accessible rooms featuring grab rails, raised toilet, lower bathroom sink, and an emergency cord. Security includes 24-hour surveillance, CCTV, smoke alarms, and key card access. Business services include fax/photocopying (free). Vending machines for snacks and drinks are available. Parking is not available on-site; paid public parking is located at Ostbahnhof station opposite the hotel. Pets are allowed on request with a fee. The hotel emphasizes digital self-service via its app for check-in, room access, and service requests, which may feel impersonal to some but is practical for others.
