HOTEL SUR MALAGA, Malaga

The hotel sits at the centre of Málaga's cultural and leisure scene. The Alcazaba is a 9-minute walk, the Picasso Museum 11 minutes, and La Malagueta Beach 15 minutes. Alameda Principal bus and metro stops are one minute away, and Málaga Centro train station (with direct airport trains) is 10 minutes on foot. Taxi rank and airport bus stop just around the corner. The immediate area is packed with tapas bars, restaurants, and shops, yet the hotel's position on a quiet street keeps noise manageable at night.

Rooms are clean and functional, featuring satellite TV, tiled floors, and a private shower. Bedding consists of two single mattresses pushed together - comfortable for some, but mattresses can feel firm and pillows thin. Street-facing rooms suffer from noise from bars and early-morning waste collection, while courtyard-facing rooms are quieter but often have a small window onto an internal shaft, making the room dark and lacking natural light. Some bathrooms may have a slight odour. No fridge, safe, or hairdryer in the room (hairdryers available at reception). Higher floors tend to be quieter; 3rd-floor rooms are recommended for light sleepers.

The breakfast offers bread, pastries, cheese, cold meats, yogurt, fruit, and cereal, plus hot drinks from a machine. It is a straightforward continental spread - sufficient for starting the day, but not extensive. For other meals, the hotel has no restaurant or bar; however, the surrounding streets are lined with dozens of cafés, tapas bars, and restaurants within a two-minute walk, giving plenty of choice for lunch and dinner.

The 24-hour reception can arrange tours, car rental, and provides maps. Luggage storage is free and available before check-in or after check-out. The lift serves all floors, and there is one room adapted for disabled guests. Parking is in a private garage within the building, but access is tricky - you must drive onto a pedestrianised street to reach it. The garage is small and spaces limited; large cars or vans cannot enter. Payment can be made by major credit cards (not PayPal). The hotel does not accept pets and is entirely non-smoking.
