SVEA HOSTEL, Stockholm

The hostel sits directly beside a metro stop, making travel across Stockholm effortless: central station in three minutes, and the city centre is about a 15-minute walk. The Vasastan neighbourhood is lively, with a wide range of restaurants, cafés, pubs and shops within a two-minute walk. Supermarkets such as Lidl and Hemköp are also nearby. Street parking is available and is free during mornings, evenings and Sundays, though nearby public parking must be paid for and cannot be reserved. The area feels safe to walk through even late at night.

Rooms are in a basement-level setting and feature shared bathrooms (each with shower and hairdryer). Many rooms have no window to the outside - they open onto an internal corridor, so a small electric fan helps with ventilation. The decor is basic but recently redecorated, with a clean if minimal feel. Dormitory rooms offer lockable lockers (bring your own padlock), while private rooms are compact but functional; some are very small with little floor space, so they are best suited for travellers who do not need to unpack. Beds are generally comfortable, and bed linen is freshly provided or available to rent. Noise from other doors can carry, but the building itself tends to be quiet.

Breakfast is not provided, so planning your own morning meal is essential. The kitchen includes hot plates, a microwave, a fridge, a freezer and all necessary cooking equipment, making it easy to prepare meals and store groceries. The surrounding streets offer numerous affordable eating options: Thai food, burgers, sushi, cafés and a Hard Rock Cafe are within a short walk. The kitchen also has a dining area where you can eat with others.

The hostel does not have a spa, swimming pool, gym or any dedicated wellness area. The shared lounge/TV area provides a space with books and board games, and the communal kitchen doubles as a social hub. For leisure outside, the excellent location puts the city's parks, museums and landmarks within walking distance. The metro stop right outside gives quick access to all of Stockholm.

Wi-Fi is free throughout the building. Luggage storage is also free - useful if you arrive before check-in or need to store bags after check-out. Laundry is available for an additional fee. Daily housekeeping is included. For security, the hostel uses key-code locks on rooms (the code is given on arrival) and has CCTV in common areas and outside, plus a safety deposit box at reception. The reception is open 13:00-20:30, but late arrivals are handled via an envelope with your details left at the desk. Bicycles can be stored in a safe area on request.
