HOTEL DE LA PAIX, Paris

The hotel sits between metro stations Convention (line 12) and Boucicaut (line 8), each a 5-10 minute walk, plus bus routes 39, 62, 80 and RER C at Javel station. Line 8 reaches Les Invalides, Opéra, Concorde and Bastille; line 12 serves Montparnasse, Musée d'Orsay and Montmartre. The Eiffel Tower is 3 km away - about 30 minutes on foot or 15 minutes by metro. Porte de Versailles exhibition centre (trade fairs, Maison & Objet) is 850 m away. The immediate neighbourhood has several restaurants, a supermarket and bakery within a few minutes' walk. Car access is manageable via the nearby paid garage; for CDG airport, a taxi is the recommended option as direct metro connections are limited.

The 37 rooms are spread across four categories: Single (150 cm bed for solo stays), Double Standard (double bed), Double Confort (160 cm bed, bath or shower) and Twin (two single beds, more spacious) and Triple Standard (twin plus single or double, desk). All include private bathroom (shower or bath), hairdryer, free toiletries, soundproofed windows, safe, and heating - but no balcony (despite some rooms having a small Juliette balcony) and no fridge or kettle in room. The toilet is separate from the shower in some configurations. Many rooms are compact (around 15 m2). Recent experience suggests some bathrooms have poor shower pressure or a mouldy smell; curtains and carpets in some rooms show wear. The air conditioning can be noisy when running at full power. The hotel does not offer connecting rooms.

Breakfast includes baked goods (croissants, pains au chocolat, pains aux raisins), bread (white and wholemeal), jams, cereals, fromage blanc, yoghurt, fresh fruit salad, hard-boiled eggs, cold meats, fruit juices, coffee, tea, herbal infusions and hot chocolate. The breakfast room features stone walls and a fireplace. A reduced rate applies for children 7-10. When the breakfast room is full, overflow tables are set up in the reception area. The hotel has no restaurant or bar beyond a drink vending machine in the lobby. Several restaurants, bakeries and a supermarket are within a 5-minute walk for other meal options.

For leisure, the surrounding 15th arrondissement provides Georges Brassens and André Citroën parks for walking, plus Aquaboulevard water park (a short metro ride away). The hotel's own lounge area - with a fireplace, comfortable armchairs and hot/cold drink machines - functions as a quiet relaxation space.

All rooms include free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, a safe, a desk and air conditioning. The reception is staffed 24 hours for check-in and general assistance. Luggage storage is available before check-in and after check-out. A business corner with fax/photocopying is available for an extra charge. The lift serves all floors. A drink vending machine and a safety deposit box (in the room) are provided. Ironing facilities are available on the ground floor (not in rooms). The hotel accepts American Express, Visa and MasterCard. Daily housekeeping is provided, but towel changes occur only on request - ask at reception if you need fresh towels. Pets are allowed on request without extra charge.
