MCCRAE'S BED AND BREAKFAST, Edinburgh

McCrae's sits on a quiet residential street in the New Town, roughly 10-15 minutes on foot from Princes Street and the main shopping district, and about 20 minutes to Edinburgh Castle. The immediate neighbourhood is peaceful at night, and along nearby Broughton Street and within the St. James Quarter there are numerous pubs, restaurants and cafés within a 5-10-minute walk. A tram stop and bus stop are within a few minutes' walk, providing direct routes to the city centre and Edinburgh Airport (a 25-minute drive). The location works well both on foot and by public transport, and the B&B is easy to reach from the airport without a car.

All rooms are at ground level and come with an en suite bathroom, a large shower with good water pressure, and a choice of a double or twin bed (request when booking). Some rooms overlook the garden; all have working traditional window shutters that block out all light, helping even light sleepers rest well. Rooms are generally spacious and bright, carpeted, and include a smart TV with free streaming services, tea/coffee-making facilities, an electric kettle, ironing facilities, heating, a sitting area, and free Wi-Fi. Towels and bed linen are Organic or Fairtrade cotton. Eco-friendly Faith in Nature toiletries are provided. An extra bed can be added on request for an additional fee.

Breakfast is included and laid out as a generous continental buffet in the elegant dining room, where you share a large table with other guests. The spread includes homemade muffins, croissants, scones, cereals, fruit, yoghurts, toast and jams, juice, and tea/coffee. Hot porridge can be ordered, and cooked breakfast options are available at an extra cost (approx. £5). Gluten-free bread, oats, and muesli are always available on request. The host uses organic and locally sourced ingredients where possible. If you have an early excursion, a takeaway breakfast bag can be arranged the night before. No restaurant or bar is on site, but several dining options are within a short walk on Broughton Street and around St. James Quarter.

The property does not have a spa, swimming pool, or fitness facilities. For leisure, the shared lounge/TV area includes a piano and a small library of books, providing a calm space to unwind after a day of sightseeing. The surrounding residential area is quiet and walkable, making it easy to explore Edinburgh on foot.

Wi-Fi is free and available in all rooms. Daily housekeeping and express check-in/out are complimentary. Luggage storage is free and you receive a new access code so you can collect your bags after check-out. A shared lounge with a TV and piano is available for all guests. Safety & security features include 24-hour security, key access, smoke alarms and fire extinguishers. Babysitting/child services can be arranged for an extra charge. Parking is not on site: public street parking is ticketed (Mon-Fri daytime only, £3.10/hr, 4-hour limit), free overnight and all weekend; a free off-street car park is a 10-minute walk away. No airport shuttle is available. No restaurant, spa, or swimming pool.
